Information and Requirements

Board Approved Resolution on ASB Fundraising for Charity to Charitable Organizations 6/14/2016

  • This Board resolution delegated authority to the SDUSD Controller to authorize disbursement of funds raised by an ASB or ASB Club for charity to a charitable organization.
  • November 19, 2013 board agenda item F.3 was renewed on June 14, 2016.
  • Outside non-profit 501(c)3 fundraising is permissible as long as the fundraising event is clearly identified as raising funds to donate to that charity.

To seek approval:

  • Once the fundraiser has been approved by ASB and Administration and the proper paperwork has been filed, send a request to the SDUSD Controller with the following documents:
  • Description of organization (information is available on their websites)
  • Organization's IRS letter of determination indicating 501(c)3 status
  • Name of the student group coordinating the fundraiser

The SDUSD Controller will provide approval via email and include next steps. Upon SDUSD Controller approval, use School Cash accounting account 2650 or one of the established accounts 2651 through 2662 for the purpose of collecting and disbursing proceeds to the 501(c)3 organization.

Doctors Without Borders:

  • Description of Organization: Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) help people worldwide where the need is greatest, delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epedemics, disasters or exclusion from health care.

Free the Children:

  • IRS Letter of Determination
  • Description of Organization: Free the Children is an international charity and educational partner that believes in a world where all children are free to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change. They work domestically through We Day and We Act to educate, engage and empower youth to become active local and global citizens. Through their holistic and sustainable development model- Adopt a Village- they work to remove barriers to education and to empower communities to break the cycle of poverty.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society:

  • IRS Letter of Determination
  • Description of Organization: The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. They are the voice for all blood cancer patients and they work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA):

  • IRS Letter of Determination
  • Description of Organization: The Muscular Dystophy Association (MDA) is a non profit organization that helps raise money and find treatments to muscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other neuromuscular diseases. MDA organizes fundraisers and health care services to help support the MDA families.
