Janice Roy has been a Health Technician at Sequoia Elementary School for 10 years. She has been an active member of the Sequoia Elementary school community ever since her children began attending the school more than 20 years ago. She has served on the PTA as a board member and has held several different offices, including PTA President. She likes helping to create a school climate where families feel welcomed and appreciated. There are very few events that have taken place at Sequoia during the past 20 years that Janice has not been a part of.
Janice is a conscientious employee who goes above and beyond the scope of her responsibilities. She is a very caring individual who works well with Sequoia Elementary families. All the children at the school know her name. She greets everyone with a smile when they come to see her in the nurse's office. She is like their mother at school and one can tell that the kids really appreciate her loving touch by the smiles, hugs, and thank you notes/drawings that she receives from the students.
"Janice is one of the most committed employees I have ever worked with at San Diego Unified," a colleague wrote in her recommendation letter. "Many staff members, parents, and students go to her first for help with issues."
The students know that she is genuine with her concern for them and they blossom in her care. When they need directions, she provides it to them. When the students need to feel special, she is compassionate to each one of them.
San Diego Unified congratulates Janice Roy and her family on her selection as 2016 Classified Employee of the Year.
