Overview:

The Behavioral Health Urgent Care serves children, teens and their families struggling with urgent emotional and/or behavioral concerns that pose a risk to their safety, or the safety of others, or significantly impair their daily lives.

We serve children and teens ages 5 to 17 in the Mid-City community and surrounding areas. We accept Medi-Cal and private insurance. We are also able to provide services to the uninsured and undocumented.

Services:

Walk-in clinic, available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday for assessment to address risks and referral, and linkage to community resources. Short term follow-up visits during the day
following initial assessment and case management

Urgent psychiatric/medication evaluations (by appointment only)

Medication support (1-2 visits) for refills on current medications/emergent refill if unable to see current provider - cannot modify current medication regimen

PERT Team

  • If you are unable to safely transport your child to the Emergency Screening Unit, please call the PERT Team.

  • Available by calling 911 or the San Diego County Sheriff's Department at 858-565-5200 AND request the assistance of the PERT Team.

  • PERT Team provides emergency assessment and referral for individuals with mental illness who come to the attention of law enforcement through phone calls requesting emergency assistance.

Clinicians will respond with law enforcement to evaluate the situation, assess the individual's mental health condition and needs and if appropriate, transport the individual to a hospital or other treatment center, or provide a referral to a community based resource or treatment facility.

Emergency Screening Unit (ESU)

  • The ESU is available if you are able to safely transport your child to the ESU facility.

  • Available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

  • Please call in advance to inform the ESU of your intent to access the facility: 619-876-4502

  • The Emergency Screening Unit (ESU) provides emergency psychiatric evaluations, crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, brief outpatient counseling, case management and emergency medication management to children and adolescents under age 18.

  • ESU serves the Medi-Cal population and those who do not have any medical coverage. Although those with private insurance can be seen at ESU, it is advised that the private insurance clients receive services at facilities and agencies authorized by the insurance company.
