Description: Provide mental health assessment and treatment services; services provided pursuant to an IEP.

Target Population: Students with special education services (IEP's) exhibiting social/emotional/behavioral symptoms that adversely impact educational benefit over a significant period of time.

Referral: School site IEP teams consult with designated school site clinician; next steps collaboratively determined and may include obtaining an assessment plan signed by parent/guardian. For procedures proceed to SDUSD website, click on staff portal, departments, mental health resource center and MHRS. List of schools and designated clinicians available on site as well.

Services: MHRS Psychosocial Assessment by a qualified mental health clinician; assessment recommendations include school based mental health services, school based behavior intervention services, intensive mental health services or residential services.

School based mental health services are provided by itinerant SDUSD Mental Health Intervention Team (MHIT) staff members. MHIT personnel are assigned to each school site and include clinicians (IMF/MST, ASW/LCSW, and Clinical Psychologists) and rehabilitation specialists. Services may include individual and/or family counseling by a clinician; group counseling by a clinician and/or a rehabilitation specialist and classroom focused behavior-intervention. Adjunct services include consultation/collaboration with IEP team members and parents, case management and crisis management. Therapeutic services may include but are not limited to the following treatment modalities, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Trauma Focused-CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Trauma Informed Care and Experiential Psychotherapy.

Description: School-based mental health outpatient program; target schools include those within the City Heights Collaborative boundaries.

Target Population: Students demonstrating mental health related symptoms & attend Monroe Clark Middle School, Wilson Middle School, Rosa Parks Elementary School or Hoover High School.

Referral: Any staff person at the four schools, parents, or community agencies.

Services: School-based outpatient mental health services including individual, family, and group therapy, staff consultation for students with mental health issues, intensive case management services with referrals to community agencies, and crisis intervention.

Funded By: Price Philanthropies Grant awarded to SDUSD-MHRC.

 

SDUSD Outpatient Program (SDOP)

Description: Mental health outpatient services for youth who meet eligibility criteria, have Medi-Cal insurance and attend target schools.

Target Population: Students insured by Medi-Cal, demonstrating mental health related symptoms. Students attending Bell, CPMA, Henry, Kearny, Lincoln, Mann,  Pacific View Academy, Rolando Park, Rowan, SCPA, University City, Washington and Wilson.

Referral: School personnel and parents may refer to the program; students may self-refer however, need parental consent before treatment is initiated.

Services: Individual and family therapy provided on designated school sites.

Funded By: San Diego County HHSA-Behavioral Health Services contract; contract awarded to SDUSD-MHRC.

Target population: Students attending ALBA Community Day School who are demonstrating mental health related symptoms & behaviors.

Referral: ALBA School staff, parents, or self-refer (consent obtained before treatment).

Services: Provide outpatient services to include individual, family and group therapy; case management, screening and assessment.

Mental health services are integrated throughout the school day within a blended therapeutic and educational environment; scheduled therapy services provided by qualified mental health clinicians and behavior intervention provided by qualified rehabilitation specialists.

Target Population: The program serves Marcy School students eligible special education services. Students exhibiting pervasive social, emotional or behavioral characteristics/symptoms that adversely impact educational benefit over a significant period of time.

Description: The program provides evidenced based prevention and intervention services at school sites, within classroom and small group settings, parent training groups, and consultations. A Family Community Partnership component will be offered in conjunction with the curriculum to foster prevention, community education and outreach to the families to promote understanding and awareness.

Target Population: Children attending designated SDUSD elementary school (preschool through 3rd grade) who do not met the threshold criteria for mental health treatment services. There are 33 identified SDUSD schools that will be served over a 5 year, for a list of schools contact the listed Lead Licensed Mental Health Clinician.

Referral: Parent, teacher, district counselor or staff a the designated school sites.

Services: Screening, early identification and intervention for students attending Preschool through 3rd grade. The evidenced based curricula titled Incredible Years will be offered within classroom and small children's groups, culturally appropriate parent training groups and teacher consultations at designated elementary school sites; referrals and linages to community providers; consultation with school personnel. Services offered by a district personnel, consisting of Licensed Mental Health Clinicians, Mental Health Case Workers, Rehabilitation Specialist and Promotoras (Community Assistants).

Screening To Care Program

Description: The Screening to Care Program is being offered to all middle schools in the District. Over the course of the next four years, all middle school students will have the option to participate in the Program and complete a brief online universal screening tool to determine individual social emotional needs. Based upon the student's responses, the student will have access to schoolwide social emotional interventions. Completion of the screening tool and engagement in services through the Program are at no cost to the student.

Target population: Children attending designated SDUSD middle schools. Over the course of five years all middle schools in SDUSD will be served.

Services: student will have access to schoolwide social emotional interventions (Tier 1), small group supports (Tier 2) or referrals to mental health services (Tier 3). Tier 2 small group services will be provided by Mending Matters and referrals to Tier 3 providers may be through existing onsite mental health partnerships or to community based organizations.

Funding By: San Diego Unified School District in collaboration with the County of San Diego Behavioral Health Services.
