NAEP - National Assessment of Educational Progress
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the only ongoing, nationally representative assessment designed to evaluate what America's students know and can do in a variety of subjects, such as reading, writing, mathematics, and science. Also known as the Nation's Report Card, NAEP was established by Congress in 1969 and is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, a division of the U.S. Department of Education (ED). Schools are selected to participate each year based on a representative demographic sample nationwide.
NAEP includes operational assessments in reading and mathematics for grades four, eight, and twelve. Results are provided at the state and national levels for grades four and eight and at the national level only for grade twelve. The San Diego Unified School district also participates the NAEP Trial Urban District Assessment (TUDA) program.
