Mental Health Services for Students with Medi-Cal Insurance or No Insurance
Description: SchooLink is a partnership between the County of San Diego HHSA-Behavioral Health Services (BHS) and local school districts to provide mental health services at school sites. Mental Health agencies obtain BHS contracts & funding specifically designed to provide school based mental health services.
MHRC sponsors MOU's with 9 mental health agencies; services are provided to students on 113 school sites.
The following mental health agencies have Board approved MOU's:
- Douglas Young
- Family Health Centers
- Mental Health Systems Inc.
- Prime Ally - Paradise Hospital
- Rady's Childrens Hospital
- Providence Community Services
- SAY San Diego
- UPAC
- YMCA
MHRC-San Diego Outpatient Program: SDOP is a District run program also holding a BHS contract to provide mental health services to students with Medi-Cal on select school sites.
Services: Services include individual and family therapy, case management and if indicated access to psychiatric assessment/medication management.
Target Population: Students with Medi-Cal insurance or no insurance. Students who are demonstrating significant mental health symptoms and causing impairment in an important life domain.
Referral Process: School site staff and parents may refer; students may self-refer. School personnel must use a SchooLink-BHS approved referral form and obtain a parent signature in order to provide a referral to the agency.

The following information will be requested:
- Number of students with Full-Scope Medi-Cal insurance
- Size of School
- Number of students with Free Reduced Lunch
- Synopsis of students needs at the school site
SchooLink-BHS liaison will then collaborate with HHSA-BHS Contract Monitor (CORS)
- CORS will determine if any mental health agencies are available
- CORS will review the information provided & may provide approval to add a new school site
If SchooLink-BHS services are approved the following steps will be initiated:
- SchooLink-BHS was designed to systemize implementation of HHSA-BHS services within districts throughout San Diego County
- SDUSD-MHRC district liaison, agency personnel and school administration/staff will meet
- Initial meeting will follow the SchooLink-BHS online Training & Procedure Module
- The module will help school personnel and the mental health agency to systemically implement services
