Overview

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 has been with us for many years. It is a civil rights statute aimed at preventing or correcting discrimination based on disability.

School districts have specific responsibilities under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that include identifying, evaluating, and if the child is determined to be eligible under Section 504, providing access to and participation in curriculum, program, buildings, and activities.
