"FCBEscola” Soccer

SAN DIEGO (May 4, 2017) - FC Barcelona, through its FCBEscola Program, has partnered with the San Diego Unified School District to bring the first ever “FCBEscola” Soccer Academy to San Diego. Serving as FCBEscola's headquarters on the West Coast, San Diego Unified will be the first school district in the United States to team up with the FCBEscola program, and the first to open a world class soccer academy in its hometown.

The unique collaboration between FCBEscola and San Diego Unified will provide free one-of-a-kind monthly soccer youth development clinics, as well as a tuition-based soccer academy program. The district's students will enjoy an exclusive opportunity to attend the free clinics and, for those interested, a reduced fee to attend the year-round soccer academy will also be offered. The tuition-based academy will be open to all members of the San Diego community. Both the clinics and the academy will begin this fall.

Operating out of Bell Middle School, the FBCEscola programs will teach youth soccer players - both boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16 - the methodology, style of play and values that have made FC Barcelona one of the top soccer clubs in the world. FCBEscola will also offer scholarships and discounted rates to those who qualify. In addition, students and community members enrolled in the FBCEscola programs will have the opportunity to be selected for an “FCB Experience” which includes a trip to Barcelona to practice and play soccer at the FC Barcelona headquarters, known as Ciutat Esportiva.

"San Diego Unified is proud to bring these unique and exciting opportunities to the San Diego Unified student population, and to the San Diego community at large," said Scott Giusti, director of physical education, health and athletics for the school district.

"For us, this is great news," added Franc Carbo, director of FCBEscola. “We will be able to provide a comprehensive soccer development program targeted toward youth, all the while continuing to leverage our social approach by instilling our values and methodologies to San Diego Unified School District students and the youth community in San Diego. ¨
