The Payroll Department encourages all district employees to participate in direct deposit and "go green" with a paperless electronic pay advice. There are numerous advantages over a paper check:
-
You don't have to travel to the bank to deposit a paper check.
-
You can divide the payment over multiple accounts.
-
The electronic payment cannot get lost in the mail, damaged or stolen.
-
You get access to the funds on Payday.
-
The switch to electronic advices cuts down on labor and material costs for your employer.
-
Using electronic advices greatly cuts down on paper usage.
In 2009, the San Diego Unified School District discontinued the automatic printing of direct deposit advices in an effort to reduce paper usage and associated costs. Employees do still have the option to receive a printed advice upon request. However, advices are always easily available electronically to view and/or print through PeopleSoft. The printed advice can normally be used for all of the same purposes where a paycheck document is required (i.e. financing a vehicle purchase, financing a home loan, etc.)
