The structural framework for Mira Mesa High School’s new classroom and student services facility is now complete, with the final steel beam put into place on Friday. Students and staff joined Board of Education Trustee Sabrina Bazzo and Acting Superintendent Dr. Fabi Bagula in signing the beam, then watched as it was hoisted and set into place.

Major campus improvements and a new grass playfield are officially underway for Holmes Elementary School students and neighbors. Students at the two-time California Distinguished School joined San Diego Unified Board of Education President Shana Hazan, Vice President Cody Petterson, City of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, families, community leaders, and Clairemont High School students Tuesday to celebrate the construction groundbreaking.

SAN DIEGO - More than 500 reusable water bottles are now in the hands of Foster Elementary School students, part of the latest donation of reusable water bottles by the Rob Machado Foundation to San Diego Unified District schools.

On Monday, students joined district leaders for a groundbreaking ceremony that kicked off with a display of colors from the Kearny High Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps and a performance from the cheer team.

Oak Park Elementary School’s new music building is now halfway complete, marking a major milestone in the campus’ transformation. SAN DIEGO - A second wave of campus improvements is officially underway at Mira Mesa High School. A groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction on the second phase of the school’s Whole Site Modernization project, which will enhance campus security, build a new student services and classroom facility, convert the existing student services facility into classrooms, renovate aging classrooms and common areas, add a new visitor and administrator parking lot, construct shaded lunch court areas, and remove all remaining portable classrooms.

SAN DIEGO - Oliver Hazard Perry Elementary School celebrated National Veterans and Military Families Month with a construction groundbreaking for its campus transformation and new joint-use field. Held on Wednesday, November 8, the celebration included the Morse High School Army JROTC’s Color Guard, National Anthem singer, and Drum Corps. Each performed to Perry students, military families, and San Diego Unified School District leaders.

SAN DIEGO - One of the largest public investments in City Heights’ history is officially complete, as the George Walker Smith Education Campus was formally dedicated. Named after the first African-American elected to office in San Diego County, the George Walker Smith Education Campus houses the completely rebuilt Wilson Middle and Central Elementary Schools.

While Marston Middle School students are out on summer break, construction crews celebrated a major milestone for the school’s upcoming gymnasium: the hoisting of the final steel beam. Morse High School seniors are leaving their “sharpie” legacy behind. Around 30 seniors joined Principal Dr. Cynthia Larkin and Board of Education Trustee Dr. Sharon Whitehurst-Payne Tuesday in a topping-out ceremony for their upcoming performing arts facility. As part of the construction tradition, the ceremony celebrates the completion of the facility’s framework, with students and guests signing the beam before construction crews hoist it into place.

One of the Pacific Beach neighborhood’s oldest schools is getting a major makeover. A community staple for 75 years, Crown Point Junior Music Academy (CPJMA) celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for its Whole Site Modernization on Friday. Students from the Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) through fifth-grade magnet school joined Superintendent Dr. Lamont Jackson, district leaders, and the family of the late Stephen Luchs, the originator of the school’s violin academy, to celebrate their upcoming music center and classroom facilities.

SAN DIEGO - Reusable water bottles are now in the hands of 20,000 more students across San Diego. Made possible through the Rob Machado Foundation, the reusable bottles went to San Diego Unified School District students at 50 schools. The foundation also donated 500 reusable water bottles to Chavez Elementary students in April 2022 to encourage students to drink more water and cut plastic pollution from local landfills, waterways, and the ocean.

SAN DIEGO - A new field of “Marauder” dreams is officially open at Mira Mesa High School. The varsity baseball team christened the newly renovated baseball field with a ceremonial first pitch during its home opener on Saturday, March 4.

The San Diego Unified School District celebrated its newest school today, a campus that serves Mission Valley’s growing population and honors its rich history. Named after the indigenous village that once existed nearby, Nipaquay Elementary School - translated to “Our Other Home” - is the result of years of planning between San Diego Unified and the community. It is the district’s first school built in Mission Valley.

SAN DIEGO - Generations of San Diego High School alumni watched as the contents of a 1976 time capsule were unveiled and a fallen Army nurse and alumni was honored during the annual All Class Reunion Saturday. Inside the time capsule were an ASB constitution, pictures of the old school buildings, a videotape showing the demolition of the old building, shots of the then-new building, Election Day editions of local newspapers, a San Diego telephone directory, copies of the student handbook, and a 1976 yearbook.

SAN DIEGO - A new joint-use soccer field and park are one “kick” closer to opening to the public. On Tuesday, San Diego Unified School District, City of San Diego, and King-Chavez Academies leaders joined student soccer players and the United Soccer League’s SD Loyal to celebrate the park’s grand opening in the Stockton community of San Diego.
