Site Structure—Setting Up Your Google Site Page Structure

Hierarchical model

San Diego Unified School District uses the hierarchical model, one of the most common types of site architecture. The hierarchical model is similar to a tree in that it has a trunk (like a homepage) that branches out into categories and pages.

A proper website structure helps the site’s visitors find information easily though consistency. When building a Google site, keep in mind the department's structure, key audience, and user experience. The ideal website structure consists of a home page, categories, subcategories, and individual pages.

Before you begin building your Google site, map out the site structure. This can be a simple sketch on paper (example here). For larger sites, consider using an online wireframe application.
